Hope its as nice a day down there as it is here in Massachussetts. Feel better. :D

In other news, I can't recall the last time I posted on this >.< For some reason though I checked it today and figured I would post huh. Umm...classes are good (read:hard). My classical mechanics tutorial is crazy awesome. We are studying stuff like chaos and the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian(well, this guy not till later) and stuff! Chaos is pretty amazing. Otherwise, my quantum class is rather boring, my groups and characters class (abstract algebra more or less) is interesting but abstract (gasp!) and my music cultures of the world class is ummm...well...yeah. I've been playing lots of squash, which is fun, may join the JV team and see what happens. Haven't been playing much tennis of late though :(. Anyways, best be getting to work; tutorial session is this afternoon, although I've pretty much finished the problem set so it will be fun.

Straight from the horse's mouth: Militant environmental groups like Sierra Club are crazy, and nuclear weapons don't have a significant impact on the environment.

And that's what I heard just from turning on the radio between turning onto Columbia Road from my house and parking in the Giant parking lot (without stopping too). This was also what he was talking about in the midst of a discussion about Hurricane Katrina efforts...because...ummm...its relevant?

Need I say wtf?

No, but I'll say it anyways. wtf?

I mean... I know that all of these talk shows are politically skewed, but this is ridiculous. There's no need for blatant(and random) outbursts of incoherency in the midst of a national talk show discussing an ongoing natural disaster entirely unrelated to any of this.

Sorry about that, but it just seemed so stupid I had to write it down somewhere as a reminder to myself of the gross stupidity found across the political landscape.

That said, I feel quite bad about the Katrina situation. Fortunately I don't have family in the area, but its still frustrating that we knew about the destructive capabilities of this storm and still weren't prepared, albeit millions did evacuate.

I head back to school on Saturday. I'm stopping by my brother's apartment in Jersey on Saturday, then moving back in to Massachussetts on Sunday. Classes this semester include the oh so exciting Electricity and Magnetism (at least this one will use diff eq and such), Linear Algebra(another exciting class...-_-), Philosophy of Science (This I am excited about), and Art History(supposed to be lots of work and memorization but really good so I suppose it will be interesting). Its a year long course though, meaning that I take 101 this semester and 102 next semester, which takes up space in my schedule, but I would have had to take some kind of art related class at some point, and its better than taking a language.

I've been reviewing my calc stuff from high school by doing ap tests that I did before and stuff. Most of it is easy, but there is the occasional randomness where I'm like "Oh crap, how do I approximate 64^(1/3) using a series and then find the remainder after 3 terms..." Hopefully I won't need to really know some of this stuff for the purpose fo t.a.ing an entry level Calc class, but I don't know yet so I'm gonna do some of it anyways I guess.

Bleach 47 good. The series has so far yet to dissapoint since the story and pace are driven less by the whole Dragonball type train-and-fight thing and more by crazyness plus Urahara.

And that is a classic for the ages.

Summer has been pretty good. I've been painting/cleaning a lot. I redid the basement and such(we have new carpet now! Plus a new coach soon). Soon I'll be doing the hallway on the first floor. Painting is kind of fun, although cleanup/setup needed for it sucks.

I don't go back to school until like the 8th of September, though I'll be moving in the prior weekend. I'm not nervous about going back to school, in fact I'm more or less excited(yay, another class in electricity and magnetism) I just feel like I should be doing more to prepare. Especially since I'll be a t.a. for a calculus class. Yeah, it might just be calc 1, but I think I'll end up meticulously combing through my calc notes and doing problems and such.

In the meantime, I haven't been playing any tennis at all. Kind of sad, but I am seemingly satisfied with runnign and lifting for now. I do miss it though.

Bleach is good, both manga and anime. Honey and Clover is also pretty good, albeit of an entirely different nature than the few animes I've seen. Last Exile is now on G4 too, so I might check it out. I saw a little over one episode, and it certainly seemed promising, even though I had no idea what was going on. The dubbing wasn't terrible though(read FMA which I still don't like the dubbing for) but I never heard the original audio so I can't compare.

That's about it. Going up to Jersey soon to help my brother move in to his new apartment(he graduated this spring and will be working in Jersey as a mechanical engineer). I'm excited for him, he should enjoy having an engineering job and living close(r) to his girlfriend and such.

Oh, and happy birthday to me.

I have to say that I really did enjoy reading the new Harry Potter book, at least the first 500 or pages of it. Then I realized, wow, this is only a 650 page book! Where the %&$@ is all the plot/action? And then, stuff goes down...really really fast like, much unlike the 5th book where everything(well, everything but Harry at least) was drawn out and deliberate. So, I ended up feeling much less satisfied after finishing than I felt while reading. Then again, that might have to do with the fact that since Dumbledore died there was no extra chapter where Dumbledore explains everything. So, the ending was a little quick and unsatisfying. I'm left with no option than to expect the 7th book to have a whole lot of stuff in it that actually makes clear all of this stuff.

Also, I guess I have to say that despite knowing that Dumbledore was probably going to die, there was a moment when I thought that Snape might die, considering the whole ubreakable curse stuff going on. I'm still not convinced that he's evil, because Dumbledore's no idiot. What really irks me about the Dumbledore death is that it was so unceremonial and rather disgraceful for a man of his stature. I really felt that if he was going to die, it would have been in some spectacular fashion. Now I'm left feeling that I never really experienced the true extent of Dumbledore's abilities. Plus I wanted to hear the story of his hand dying. Plus this was the best book yet for Dumbledore's, showcasing much more depth (mostly emotionally I guess) in his character. And he was always oddly funny. And by oddly funny I mean ridiculously so.

I didn't mind the romance in general as much as I probably should have. Ok I admit the Ron Lavender thing was a little annoying, and the absense of any character development in Ron and Hermoine was similarly troubling, but I can't say I hate Harry being with Ginny, since Ginny can be pretty cool. Naturally almost all of the romance stuff was quite awkward, but I suppose that can't be helped in a school environment and with 15-16 year olds. Actually now that I think about it, the funniest thing about it all was definitely all the references to "the beast" within Harry. Those were incredible. They made him out to be some kind of strange sex-offender type person. Very funny.

Anyways, I preferred the pace of this book to that of the 5th, which was agonizing at times with all the emo-Harry + grumpy-other-characters. It really wasn't that bad, plenty of it was enjoyable. But it just leaves so much open that I can only hope that the 7th book is very dense, and yet, even if it is, it leaves me thinking that Harry will be so desolate by then that the book will be less enjoyable.

Oh, also funny that Draco had more depth than any of Harry's friends in this book, period.

Maybe I'll write some other time about the other thing occupying some of my time: Bleach. I have to say that the anime is pretty awesome, and having read a bit of the manga, its good too.

Millencolin-No Cigar
I heard this song several years back and loved it, but I wasn't sure who it was by and never really listened to it much. But after listening to it some more I find that its just as good as I remember.

2. Interpol- Evil
This song has just been stuck in my head on and off for quite some time. I like every part of it.

3. Coldplay- Square One
One of the stronger songs on their new cd, the chorus is great.

4. Coldplay- Speed of Sound
The single from their new cd. Sure it's evocative of Clocks, with the sweeping piano movement and what not, but its still fresh and immediately enchanting.

5. The Strokes- Last Nite
I skipped out on the whole Strokes thing a few years back, but I started listening to a little bit of late. This song is just really energetic and catchy.

6.
Well, I'm pretty tired. I've had about 8-9 hours of sleep total over the past couple of days. That said, Spring Break started today. I left Williamstown this morning. I'm off until April 3rd. I love two week Spring Breaks!

Anyways, classes are going well. Math (discrete tutorial) and physics (math methods for scientists- basically diff eq, only with all the stuff you never want to work with, like series, complex numbers, and series of complex numbers) are hard but fun. Philosophy (logic) is pretty awesome, and macroecon is kind of boring and annoying, especially when its responsible for you staying up to 4am to finish a problem set due the day before Spring Break even though class is cancelled and we just had a test. Stupid econ.

Classes aside though, school is fun. Tennis starts up again after Spring Break. I haven't played since the fall, and I'm not sure how much I'm looking forward to regular practices. I'm still excited to play, but I'd probably rather run and lift a lot at my own leisure, which is what I've been doing. Still, tennis is a lot of fun. I suppose I shouldn't just give it up so easily. Plus I'm better at tennis than I am at lifting.

I would say more, but I seem to be at a loss for words. Or, well, I just can't find anything to say right now. Maybe I'll write more later. To those of you who have Spring Breaks upcoming, have fun on them.

I'm obliged to complain about how cold it gets here, despite the fact that it (seemingly) snows a lot. So, let's just say that on Tuesday morning around 8:15, the wind chill was 18 (Farenheit), and the temp was 23. It did not make waking to class fun. It's since then been in the 30s basically all week.

Also, Fight Club is a pretty good movie. Halo 2 is a lot of fun. Ummm...political science papers suck.

And after one or two more people spoke, this guy said, "Well, I'm a Republican, and I find it a little insulted that Democrats think we hate gay people. It's just that according to my religion, they shouldn't be married."

And after that, this other kid, who identified himself as a democrat, says, "See, you know, this is the problem; there are all these democrats who think that all Republicans hate gay people---this is why we can't win elections, the very liberal people are out of touch with the rest of society" (or something along those lines).

At this point I'm just laughing(silently of course). I mean, I was being facetious! The professor got it. At least some of the people got it. It was just one of those stupid/funny things that happens I suppose. Long story short, I can only assume that half the class now thinks of me as "that liberal who thinks that all Republicans hate gay people." Oh well, I don't really care. I just thought it was kind of funny the way it happened.

Anyways, really though, I do think there is a problem in this country with conservatives hating gay people. Obviously not all conservatives hate gay people, but there's clearly something wrong when so many people will, through either their actions or through words, basically say, "I don't hate gay people, I just don't think they should have the same rights as everyone else." I mean, c'mon, that's the exact same way people treated African Americans, Jewish people, the Chinese, Japenese, Native Americans (and the list goes on) since this country was created.

This really sucks. In all fairness though, the Republicans ran a better campaign. The Democrats are shitty politicians these days, and can't seem to decide whether they want to move to the left or to the right. My guess is it will take a Southern, somewhat conservative, Democrat to win the whitehouse.

A word of warning to females: Don't get pregnant unless you know you don't want an abortion and you're willing to die if things go wrong and you can't get one, because it's looking like they might be made illegal. It's too soon to tell on the national scale though.

The gay marriage thing is ridiculous too. I won't go into it much because there are too many things that are blatantly wrong about it, but basically any gay marriage ban on any level is in my eyes unconstitutional due to the rulings in Brown v. Board of Ed.

The only thing that really frustrates me is that it all comes down to politics(which I despise) instead of capacity/ability. And Republicans excel at manipulating frightened, God-fearing people with lies and deceit. (And probably a dirty pool.)

Curt Schilling and Derek Lowe were amazing. Schilling, for those of you who don't know, threw 7 innings and gave up one earned run to get the win. However, the tendon in his ankle was actually torn, and they stitched it up and bolted it together, and gave him specialized high top shoes. <lj:music>LOTR music</lj:music>

I watched the first part of the Extended Edition last night. I just finished watching the 2nd part a little earlier. Let me just say: it rules. It's definitely the best of the three. I guess I'll have to wait for the extended edition of Return of the King, but I doubt it will match this. I've watch Two Towers like 7 times, and it's better every time. It's just that good. And not only because it's good on its own, but also because the book provides such a vauge frame for a complete movie. And yet it makes the transition nearly seamlessly. I like the extended edition a lot because it's not so harsh in its portrayal of Faramir, which I still view to be the greatest deficiency in the movies. Yet, in the 2nd one, it really works as far as the movie goes. And that says something.

Anyways, that was really random, but I figured I should say it. Go Two Towers.

Also, reading period rules. Yay no class Monday and Tuesday. Boo poly sci paper due Thursday, econ test Thursday, and physics test next Monday. Oh well, it's getting done. Yay Two Towers.

Fizzle

    <lj:music>Maroon 5- This Love</lj:music>

Nobody calls me a fizzle and gets away with it! Except for that one guy who called me a fizzle and then ran away. He got away with it.

Family Guy is good stuff.

So, we had Mountain Day today. It's this annual event where classes are cancelled, they ring a bell, and everyone gets to go climb this mountain. There was a picnic lunch in addition to a variety of different hikes, bike rides, etc. that one could take to get up to the mountain. After the picnic, I went with a large group of people from my entry and from the adjacent entry on the 3 mile hike, which was really 4 miles since they didn't take into account the walk to the trail from where the buses dropped us off, but whatever. It was actually more challenging than I expected, since a good 2 miles of it were at quite a severe incline. But it was fun. I ended up staying mostly with the lead group. It got somewhat tiring, but we realized we were outpacing the others by many minutes, so we ended up stopping for a little bit and such. Once we reached the summit, everyone drank cider, ate donuts, and mingled until a variety of a capella groups sang. At the end, everyone sang the school song (appropriately titled "The Mountains"-- it's really quite a nice school song) and then we went back to campus. Unfortunaely, the getting back part was a pain, as it was a 1 mile walk to the buses, followed by a 20 minute wait, then a 30 minute drive to get to a campus that was 10 minutes away. Oh well, it was still fun.

Anyways, school is going pretty well. I really like my physics (Modern Physics) class. The professor is really cool, and we're studying some neat stuff. I also love the fact that labs consist of 3 hour sessions every other week, in which we complete the lab, talk with the professor or the lab assistant about the lab and are done. No lab report required. This makes Nathan very happy.

Math (Multivariable Calc) is pretty cool too. The teacher is good, and the class moves quickly, but I can't say I like dealing with 3 dimensional objects, level curves, and etc. because they are a pain to draw. We have our first test on Wednesday. I must study my ass off, not because it's tremendously difficult, but rather because I really don't want to screw up the first test of my college tenure.

Econ (Micro) is fine. The problem sets are graded nicely, so they're less pressured (not to mention less hard) than, say, the physics problem sets. The class itself is ok too. I like the subject though.

Poly sci (Intro to American Politics, basically) is a little less fun. I think many of the topics we cover are interesting, as are some of the readings, though they may be hit and miss. Yet, the class seems to be run poorly, in part because the professor doesn't guide the discussions efficiently and also because the class seems to beat certain ideas into the ground or not touch on other ideas at all. Oh well. It's not tons of work, and I hope the papers are interesting.

I've been playing tennis too. The team here is amazing, so I'm not on the top 8. But I'm not sure I would want to be either, at least at this point, because I want to have enough time to do all my work. It's fun to practice with them though, and there are certainly plenty of cool people on the team.

Ok, also, a meme stolen from a bunch of people.
Ask me 3 questions. Any three, no matter how personal, private or random, I have to answer them honestly.

    <lj:music>Lifehouse-"Sick Cycle Carousel" among others</lj:music>

Well...let's see here. It's been quite a while since I've updated, and this time i do have the excuse of lots of stuff happening. Anyways, this post will probably focus solely on college.

I'm attening Williams College for anyone who does not know. It's in Williamstown(surpise), Massachussetts. And from what I can tell, it's really really awesome. There are a lot of really cool, smart, down to Earth people here, which is so relieving to me, as I expected to not be able to make any friends and have no fun. Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but it's along the lines of the way I felt. So, seeing this has made me more pleased with my college choice.

Classes haven't started yet ((haha luminati, :P)---->this will come back to haunt me, I know it, I will be crying). They start on Thursday though. Insted, I have been doing tons of orientation stuff. Fortunately, most of the boring stuff is over. I'm doing this mid-orientation thing called, "Where am I?" in which my group goes around the area, sees stuff, does community service, cooks dinner at someone from the community's house(the couple's house that we cooked at was amazing, with a very nice looking pool and patio in the backyard, and a view of the mountains--apparently you can see 40 miles when it's clear). Anyways, it's a good bit of stuff. Earlier tonight, I went to a Reggae dance party, if only to be able to answer affirmatively if anyone ever came up to me and asked if I'd been to a Reggae dance party. It was actually a lot of fun though.

I did get to meet some people from several departments though during an open house-ish thing. The math people seem really cool, as do the physics people. But I hear that the math class I'm taking is very very hard, and that everyone fails the professor's tests because she throws stuff on there that she doesn't expect you to get. But that seems to be part of her approach, and she seems really cool, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I'm in a double, which is fine. It's a really big double, so it seems. It's not actually that big, it's just that a lot of people have single-sized doubles. And the singles here are like closets. So, I guess it's nice that I have the room that I have. My roomate's pretty cool too. He's pretty quiet, isn't intrusive, and is pretty much cool with our room. He wants to study physics too, which is cool.

The campus is really incredible, but so cold. The temperature varies a lot, so during the day it could be 80, and then be 50 at night, with a breeze that makes it feel colder. I'm not sure my body is ready for it to get cold as quickly as it will, but I'm sure I will adjust (i.e. get sick for a long time). Still, the campus is just really beautiful.

I've played some tennis too, but the muscles near my elbow, which were quite out of tennis practice, have been acting up, so I'm not sure when I'll be feeling ready to hit some more.

Anyways, I'm very tired, and I need to get up in time to go with my group at 9 to an organic farm and pick vegetables. I hope everyone else is having fun at college. I'm sorry if I made many spelling mistakes in this entry.

    <lj:music>Coldplay- "The Scientist"</lj:music>

It's true. So says Tom Hanks.

Hmmm...I haven't updated in a really really long time. Oh well. I've been pretty busy I guess. Just got back from Phili today. Saw the Phillies play the Giants in their new stadium last night. The best part was batting practice, during which Barry Bonds sent about 8 balls into the middle deck, and several over the center field wall. It was quite impressive.

I'll be going to Williams at the end of August, so I've been doing stuff getting ready for that. Unfortunately the English class I signed up for was overbooked, and so they randomly kicked me out, which isn't too bad, but it made finding a different class a huge pain. I ended up with a politics class which doesn't sound too bad. I'll still see if I can get into the english class because I'd like to get my requirements for the English,Arts, Languages Division (3 classes over 4 years, at least 2 in the first 2 years) over with quickly.

I actually wanted to take this one other class, a philosophy class about logic and language that was a prereq to "Philosophy of Science," which I want to take at some point, but it's a spring class.

As it is, here's my current schedule:

Monday
10:00-10:50 Math 106- Multivariable Calculus
11:00-11:50 Phys 151- Seminar in Modern Physics

Tuesday
8:30-9:45 Econ 110- Microeconomics
2:35-3:50 Psci 201- Power, Politics, and Democracy in America

Wednesday
10:00-10:50 Math 106- Multivariable Calculus
11:00-11:50 Phys 151- Seminar in Modern Physics
1:00-4:00 Phys Lab every other week

Thursday
8:30-9:45 Econ 110- Microeconomics
2:35-3:50 Psci 201- Power, Politics, and Democracy in America

Friday
10:00-10:50 Math 106- Multivariable Calculus
11:00-11:50 Phys 151- Seminar in Modern Physics

Hmmm, I'm not sure but I may have just exactly copied the style in which luminati posted her schedule. Ah, so sue me.

Wait, it's different, slightly. Excellent. No law suits for Nathan...

The sad part is, this could all change based on a stupid placement exam I have to take for Physics and when I finally meet with my advisor, which will be the last day before classes start. *Is baffled by the apparent stupidity of that choice of a date by the school.*

On a different, tennis related note (so you know it's gotta be good!), PoT 123-124 were pretty good, but I was dissapointed. Sure, Angry Fuji versus insane-lookslikeamouse-Iatemyheadcoach Kirihara with the Kantou Regionals on the line makes for a classic matchup, but I was just expecting more.

It's not that Fuji wasn't good when he completely embarrased Kirihara in the end, it's just that I was expecting so much more. The absolute madness that was the manga match of which I am only partially familiar but entirely pleased with clearly raised my expectations to nearly unreachable levels. I was expecting Fuji to be seriously injured and on the fence but then to turn it on and use moves that even Inui and Inoue can't explain and Kirihara can't fathom returning. That would have been awesome. (As long as he didn't break out the Tezuka zone)

Instead I get a heated match with a pretty much fake injury to Fuji (someone please tell me how a tennis ball hit by a 13 year old at your knee can injure you...) followed by an angry Fuji wreaking havoc on a somewhat startled Kirihara by using his own move(the ever frightening knuckle serve!!!!1111 Oh no, I'm so scared...-_-.) Anyways, it was satisfying, but I didn't feel the full force of retribution was dealt by the almighty Fuji Syuusuke. Oh well, I still have Ryoma's marathon (because you know it's coming) match to look forward to, if it every comes out.

One last thing: The Os are making a comeback! They're solidly in third place (for now), and although they lost today they're three games below .500, and I believe that they can continue to win and finish several games above .500 and maybe even disrupt some Wild Card standings. Miguel Tejada for mvp! There's just no denying him. I'd go ino why he should win, and how his stats are absolutely fantastic, but I know none of you really care much about baseball. *Shakes fist at friends list*

Well, that's it for now. I'll probably udate more often now. Although, you all probably don't care much about that either *Shakes fist again at friends list*

EDIT: I forgot. It's my birthday today. Haha. Go me.

    <lj:music>"Who am I?"- Les Miserables</lj:music>

It's been a while since I last posted. I haven't been enormously busy or anything, just kind of fluctuating back and forth between busy and not busy. And when I haven't been busy I've been hanging out with kaiichim and others.

Wimbeldon going on. This crazy thing happened with Venus Williams's match where the head judge gave her oponent an extra point during the decisive tiebreaker. None of the players nor the head judge noticed it, and Venus ended up losing the match. Sure she was playing like crap, but that's still kind of messed up.

I went running tonight. I didn't see any deer, nor did I run into any axe murderers. I did come across luminati and her mom, and while neither of them are deer or axe murderers, I was certainly surprised, as I have never seen her during one of my runs in all my years of running.

So, I really don't mind talking on the phone. I've done so quite a bit in the past, and I don't have too many qualms with it. The thing is, I just can't seem to dial. -_-. I was calling Peter the other day, only I managed to dial several other phone numbers before I finally managed to hit up his cell phone. And it's not like I was one off, I was dialing completely different numbers. Then I'd be like, 'Wait, his phone number doesn't end with a _.' So, I'd redial another number, only it'd be someone else's number. It took me like 4 tries. It's really sad.

Prince of Tennis 138 was crazy. I mean, just whacked out. I mean, the whole sequence with Kirihara and Ryoma blowing up the moon (that's just my best guess as to what it was) was just woah. I mean, why were they both swinging at the same time? That's really what confuses me the most. It's ok that they felt to blow up the moon, or some tiny galaxy, but why, just why were they both swinging at the same time? You just don't do that in tennis.

And then...Ryuzaki had a heart attack.

The end. (Whaaaaaaaaa?)

Also, I'm not so sure I trust firefighters as much after this. The last line is great.

I'm also losing faith in our judicial system, especially after this This article may be the funniest one I've read since "Man ate internet pal." It's just hilarious. A little disgusting too, but mostly hilarious.

"On one occasion, Ms. (Lisa) Foster (Thompson's court reporter for 15 years), saw Judge Thompson holding his penis up and shaving underneath it with a disposable razor while on the bench," the petition reads.

Several witnesses, including jurors in Thompson's court and police officers called to testify in trials, said in the petition they heard the "swooshing" sound of a penis pump during trials and saw the judge slumped in his chair, with his elbows on his knees, working the device. The witnesses said the pump sounded like a blood pressure cuff being pumped up.

Priceless.
